Bad habits. We all have them. Mine are checking email too often and surfing the web too much.
What are your bad habits? Do you eat too much “junk” food and rationalize your excuses for skipping workouts or watching too much television?
If this sounds like you then you are not alone. Just look around you- bad habits are everywhere!
Bad habits are the reason why we all need good coaches. I have a great coach who helps me with my business goals and I have even hired fitness coaches to help me learn more about my craft.
Think about this- if you have been trying to lose fat and gain muscle by yourself isn’t it time you reached out for some help from a person who has actually done it themselves? Or better still, has helped others do it?
Make no mistake- it is hard to change your body. Every day you wage war against your bad habits that are always lurking, waiting to keep you from the success you deserve.
But each day you should have a PLAN in place to overcome these bad habits before they ruin another day for you and destroy any chance of having the body you want.
Don’t let insecurity, fear of failure or the fear of the unknown hold you back from making changes. Never be a victim. Give yourself the permission and power to change. To help you break your bad habits starting today I need you take action by doing the following:
Write down the top 3 excuses you are making to avoid making the changes required to reach your goals.
Ask yourself these questions- How have these excuses affected your life? What have they stopped you from achieving?
Write down 3 important things you have missed out on because of these excuses.
Ask yourself these questions- How does it feel when you let these self-sabotaging excuses get in the way of accomplishing your goals? Are you getting any benefit from these excuses or do you simply want to stay in your comfort zone?
I know this happens to me. Sometimes I will convince myself that I need to check my email or look something up online. When I do this I get to remain in my comfort zone and avoid the hard work or fear of failure that comes with going after my goals.
Write down 3 benefits you get by making excuses.
So now we both know why we’ve created our excuses – to avoid something. What we need to do now is find a way to overcome these bad habits.
Write down 3 behaviors you want to stop.
Write down why you end up engaging in these behaviors…were you bored, lazy, scared etc.
Now give yourself the permission to change. Visualize the rewards you’ll reap when you decide to change your life and your habits.
List 3 reasons why you want to fix the habit.
If you work on bad habits daily you’ll get an incredible boost in self-esteem and confidence. With
each small successful improvement you’ll build confidence to take on the bigger habits that are
holding you back.
Remember, every day we are all a work in progress. You might have bad days, but as long as you make improvements each week and month – that is all that counts.
The Japanese have a term for it- Kaizen. This means constant and never ending improvement.
To really see the progress you are making be sure to track your progress each week and month. Through measurement you’ll be able to see what works and how much improvement you’ve made.
And finally, get social support. Don’t expect to do this alone. Lean on your family and friends. Do it together. Or hire a coach who you can reach out to whenever you need to.
